This post is about throwing a St. Patricks Day party.
St. Patricks day is such a fun time of year. Winter is over or nearly over, and the party of summer is just beginning.
In college, St. Patricks day suddenly becomes a really big deal. I don’t know if it was just me, but I never thought twice about St. Patricks day before coming to college. Now, it’s one of the best days of the year!
Throwing a St. Patricks day party is a great way to have fun, get your friends together, and start enjoying the summer (or spring.) This is a fantastic way to celebrate with the best St. Patricks Day decorations, food, games, and the best ideas.
Here are 34 St. Patrick’s day party must-haves!
ST. PATRICKS DAY PARTY MUST-HAVES
DECORATIONS
1 – SHAMROCK CONFETTI
Sprinkling shamrock confetti on your tables or displaying it in vases is perfect for decorating for your St. Patricks Day party. I really like how this confetti has different shades of green, and gold foil circles.
2 – PHOTO BOOTH BACKDROP 1
A photo booth is becoming more and more popular at themed parties, especially surrounding the holidays. I really like the metallic foil fringe for a backdrop, and then the addition of the banner and balloons for decorations.
3 – PHOTO BOOTH BACKDROP 2
Is the first photo booth option a little too green for your liking? This is the perfect happy medium. The gold foil backdrop is still eye-catching and perfect for photos with all of your guests. The strings of shamrock make it perfect for St. Patricks day, too.
4 – PHOTO BOOTH PROPS
Is a photo booth really a photo booth without themed props? I mean yes, it is, but it’s not nearly as fun. These photo booth props are super cheap, and perfect for your St. Patricks Day Party.
5 – GREEN LIGHTS
Are you a fan of fairy lights? Green fairy lights are the perfect St. Patricks day addition to your party. I especially love how these fairy lights look at night!
6 – BALLOONS
Big, foil balloons are growing more and more in popularity. These super cute foil balloons are especially fitting for St. Patricks Day party decor. I especially love the banner of balloons. These are perfect for lining a photo booth or entryway.
7 – THROW PILLOWS
If you’ve read my blog for a while, I’m sure you’ve heard this tip before – get throw pillow inserts and just switch out their covers. This saves so much money in the long run and allows you to fully decorate for the changing holidays or seasons.
8 – BURLAP AND SHAMROCK TABLE CLOTH
Are you planning for a big meal to be a part of your St. Patricks day party? This super trendy burlap and shamrock table cloth is wonderful for a festive yet classy party.
9 – CLOVER WREATH
By the time it’s St. Patricks Day, the season of holiday wreaths is over. Want to keep the tradition going? Making a “wreath” out of a bunch of paper shamrocks is a great way to do this. I really like how this set of paper shamrocks comes with not only different shades of green but both glitter and matte options.
13 – DOOR BANNERS/SIGNS
Did you love the banner idea from earlier? These are the banners that are perfect for decorating a door with. I think these decor items would be especially perfect for a dorm room!
I also included some staple St. Patricks Day door decor ideas, in case you wanted something a little more eye-catching than a banner.
FOOD
1 – RAINBOW FRUIT TRAY
Red is as timeless as gold and black. If you still want to look classic, but with some more color, red is the perfect color for you. Here’s two of my favorite looks.
These rainbow fruit trays totally encapsulate everything that St. Patricks Day is. I like that due to the rainbow theme of the trays, they hold a wide variety of fruit that is sure to please everyone at the party.
2 – DESSERT GREEN APPLES
A yellow party outfit is a great way to stand out in a New Years Eve party crowd. Yellow is one of my favorite colors, and I had a ton of fun searching for the perfect New Years Eve Party outfit!
Here’s my top two favorites, one dressy, and one casual and fun.
Need something to throw together last minute? This is the perfect option. Green apples match the theme wonderfully, and the toppings instantly make it a refreshing dessert option.
3 – GREEN JELLO SHOTS
I think just the idea of green jello shots is enough. Having a party that consists mostly of younger adults? This is the perfect way to serve drinks.
4 – LEPRECHAUN BARK
I absolutely love everything about this leprechaun bark. You can pretty much put whatever you want in them as long as it goes well with chocolate and fits the St. Patricks Day/Leprechaun theme.
5 – GREEN DEVILED EGGS
These green deviled eggs are super easy and quick to throw together, and everyone is sure to love them. This is another super easy one that ends up looking a lot fancier than it truly is.
6 – SHAMROCK VEGETABLE TRAY
This idea is so cute! A party always needs some kind of vegetable tray, and this is a great way to get a great array of vegetables that fit into your theme.
7 – ALL GREEN VEGETABLE TRAY
Want to go even more crazy on the green theme? This is a great way to do it. You may be a little limited by only using green vegetables, but it definitely adds a pop of green to your food table.
8 – GLITTER SHAMROCK CUPCAKE TOPPERS
Need a last-minute dessert idea? This is a great idea if you’re not into making food on your own, and you would prefer to pick up some cupcakes from a bakery. I really like the contrast of the cupcake toppers with the white frosting, and cupcakes from local bakeries are super underrated.
PARTY FAVORS
Party favors are expected at little kids parties, but they really need to start being expected at adult parties too. What’s not to love? They help with the theme, they’re usually really cheap, and they make for an even more Instagram perfect party.
1 – GREEN MUSTACHES
How cute are these? They’re super funny, and your guests are guaranteed to have a ton of fun with them.
2 – SHAMROCK BEAD NECKLACES
These are a St. Patricks Day party staple, especially among college students. They’re relatively cheap, and perfect for giving out to party guests.
3 – ST. PATRICKS DAY CUPS
Rather than getting hundreds upon hundreds of red solo cups or other plastic cups, give your guests these festive cups that they can take home with them.
4 – BINGO CARDS
Do you have a smaller crowd that is more intimate, and needs to be entertained for a longer period of time? Coordinate a game of bingo, and make sure you have some super fun prizes!
5 – GLITTER SHAMROCK HEADBANDS
Are you planning to have a photo station or photo booth of some sort at your graduation party? These are super inexpensive, and a great prop for a photo booth or for your guests’ Instagram pictures.
6 – TEMPORARY TATTOOS
I can’t think of a more perfect party favor for groups of college students. Temporary tattoos and bead necklaces are festive college party staples, and these are the perfect combo.
7 – GREEN BEAD NECKLACES
Here it is, the infamous green bead necklaces. Make sure that you have tons of them, your guests will want to wear a lot more than one.
8 – ST. PATRICKS DAY TRAVEL TIC TAC TOE
Have an intimate, small, calm group that you want to keep entertained? This is a great party favor to give to everyone that they will use when they’re traveling as well.
Irish Coffee Bar
If you already have a coffee station in your kitchen, make it Irish with some St. Patrick’s Day decor! And if you don’t have one, you can easily throw one together with a tiered tray and some festive mugs, straws, and a basic coffee maker. Guests will love this option at a St. Patty’s party.

St. Patrick’s Day Christmas Tree
Christmas trees aren’t just for Christmas anymore! I’ve seen so many people decorate a tree for every single holiday, and I love how colorful and festive this St. Patrick’s one is! You can use green ornaments, rainbows, and gold garland.

Lucky Charms Marshmallow Bars
These Lucky Charms bars are like Rice Krispie treats, just swap out the cereal. Decorative Tiered Tray
These tiered trays are another popular way to bring some festive decor into your home. I love this idea because once you buy a tiered tray, you can reuse it for every holiday. For St. Patrick’s Day, try decorating it with leprechauns, pots of gold coins, and shamrocks. Place it on a coffee table, mantle, or anywhere you need a little pop of green and rainbow.
