The holidays are such a cheery time of year, and your college campus is no exception. Although you’ll be gone for some of the Holiday season for winter break, people still love to decorate!
You know when you go into a store the day after Halloween and it’s suddenly holiday everything? This happens at college, too. Not everyone participates, but it’s a lot more fun if you do.
These are the cutest holiday dorm decor ideas. I love how cozy and cheap these ideas are, too! You can decorate for the holidays without spending a ton of money, and get into the Holiday spirit. These are must have holiday dorm decor ideas that all college students can afford.
Here’s 12 must have holiday dorm decor decorations that won’t break the bank.
Holiday Dorm Decor
1. Wrap Your Door
This is probably the most common holiday decoration you’ll see around campus. People will just wrap their doors in wrapping paper, and maybe add a bow!
This gift idea is so cheap! You can get gift wrap and a bow from the dollar store and be all set.
2. Get a Mini Tree
Mini trees are SO cute, and you can decorate them however you want! I love when people add little lights, a star, ornaments, everything!
Here’s my favorite affordable mini trees that are perfect for your college dorm room.
3. Hang a Banner
Decorating doors is a great way to make a statement for the holiday season. If spending the time wrapping your door isn’t your thing, simply hang a banner! It’s super cheap, and all you need is tape and the banner.
I think string lights are to be used year round, but there’s something about them during the holidays that just makes them so much more festive. Showcase the current lights you have in your room, add some more bright ones, or get some little fairy lights!
Here’s my absolute favorite light options for dorm rooms.
5. Festive Throw Pillows
Remember how I’ve told you through all of the dorm decor and dorm necessities posts that you need to get throw pillow inserts and then just get covers to go over the inserts? Now is when all of that comes into play. Here’s some super cute holiday throw pillow covers – you’re saving money by not buying an entire throw pillow, and it’s SO easy to change accent colors or themes.
Here’s the absolute cutest holiday themed throw pillow covers. I included some throw pillow inserts too, just incase you forgot to get them last time 😉
6. Presents On The Wall
This was actually a decoration my grandma used to always use, but I thought it was pretty cute. She would just wrap up all her pictures and put a bow on them during the Holidays, and then would unwrap them when the season was over.
This decor idea is super easy, and super cheap! Get some wrapping paper and a couple bows from the dollar store, you’re all set.
7. Cute Mugs
Mugs are a great decor idea, since they can be displayed during their appropriate season, yet used year round. If you have a holiday themed mug that you’re using in the summer, no one’s going to complain!
Here’s the absolute cutest mugs that are perfect for the holiday season.
8. Stocking on Your Door
If you love the holiday spirit but preparing for finals is really taking up your time, slap a stocking on your door and call it a day. All you need is a command hook, and one of these super cute stockings to be in the holiday spirit!
Similar to the “slap a stocking on the door” slap a wreath on the door! During the holiday season, there’s usually fundraisers where different organizations will sell wreaths to help support a cause. Check around, this is a great way to help out during the Holiday season.
If wreaths are a no-go in your area, here’s some cute ones below!
10. Candy Cane Supply
Sometimes, just keeping a constant supply of candy canes during the holiday season is a great way to bring a little cheer to everyone who comes over, without having to put in much effort. There’s tons of candy cane flavors and brands, so make sure to get a fun variety!
Pro tip – put the candy cane supply in one of the holiday mugs mentioned above, or hang them on your mini tree. Extra cute!
If you want to decorate, but don’t have a budget for a ton of holiday decor, just get some ribbon and go nuts. Thick, red ribbon can add a lot of color, especially to a small space, and comes at a very fair price.
I love this idea for dorm beds, since they always have posts that can be wrapped with the ribbon! Plus, the ribbon can be strung on the wall, too.
I really like a thinner, red ribbon on top of some burlap! Such a cute way to add a rustic element to your holiday theme.
12. Snow Globes
Snow globes are pretty cliché, but they’re still super cute! I think snow globes work out perfectly when they aren’t the typical scenes you would expect to be in them.
Check out these cute, funny snow globes!
