This post is about college apartment kitchen organization ideas.

Your first college apartment is extremely exciting, but it’s hard to figure out how to get organized.

One of the main places that I recommend keeping extremely organized is the kitchen. It’s really easy to throw things in drawers and cabinets, and the clutter collects quickly!

College apartment organization is key to productivity. A clean, functional, organized space makes things so much easier! This is especially true in the kitchen.

Keeping dishes off the counter and not collecting clutter is a great way to keep up with general cleanliness, but organizing your apartment kitchen completely takes it a step further!

This post shows you 18 amazing college apartment kitchen organization ideas.

College Apartment Kitchen Organization Ideas

1. Silverware Tray

I feel like this one is a given. Well, while at college I noticed that some of my friends actually didn’t have one – they just kept their silverware thrown in a random drawer. Don’t be these friends.

2. Pots and Pans Rack

Pots and pans are the hardest things to organize. I highly recommend a pots and pans organizer. This makes things a lot easier, and prevents you from having to try and stack all of your pots and pans.

3. Pantry Containers

Pantry containers are not the most necessary, but can help a lot when organizing bulk dry goods.

I really like labeling these containers, and then your pantry looks so aesthetically pleasing! For bulk items that you don’t have as much of a large quantity of, use mason jars.

4. Fridge Organization

A shared fridge gets super cluttered and gross, super fast.

Start with a labeling system, and stick to it! I really like the idea of using colored dots, and each person is assigned a color. This is a good system if you don’t split up shelf space.

5. Lazy Susan

A lazy susan is a great addition to any cabinet. I really like when they’re put in cabinets up high that will hold smaller things, like extra condiments. This way nothing gets tipped over when you’re reaching for something!

6. Hang Cleaning Products

Cleaning products have the tendency to get all cluttered under your kitchen sink.

A great way to prevent this clutter is to add a tension rod under the sink, and hang all cleaners with a spray bottle. This also saves space, allowing you to store more stuff under the sink in an organized way.

7. Add Command Hooks

As I’m always saying, the key to maximizing small spaces is to utilize your vertical space!

Hang towels, oven mitts, dish sponges, anything from the sides of cabinets above your sink. This is a great way to keep those things off the counter and around the sink. Everything has a home!

8. Shelf Dividers

Another great tip for keeping items up high in shelves is to use shelf dividers. This keeps things organized, and keeps everything from falling over.

If you get these and find that you don’t need them in your kitchen, they’re perfect for use on your clothing shelves in your closet!

9. Fruit Basket

A designated space for fruit makes that much more space in your fridge, and looks so much nicer!

A fruit basket doubles as a great piece of decor, which is always needed in a college apartment.

10. Inside Cabinet Doors

Just like utilizing vertical space on the outside of cabinets, utilize this space on the inside of cabinets! This is a great space to store plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and any miscellaneous cleaning supplies.

11. Pantry Door Shoe Organizer

If you used a shoe organizer in your dorm room to help store dry goods, this works just as well in a college apartment.

I recommend hanging the shoe organizer on the back of a closet door, or on the inside of your pantry door if you’re lucky enough to have a full pantry in your college apartment.

12. Spice Rack

Spices are an essential for every new college kitchen. Spices are needed to complete essentially any type of cooking, and having them on hand is key to always being prepared to cook a meal.

I love spice racks that come with matching spice containers, and I even included an option that comes with the spices! If you get the spice rack with empty containers, fill them at a local natural food store.

13. K-Cup Holder

A keurig is a clear necessity in every college apartment kitchen. The great thing about a keurig is that it can be moved from one living space to the next very easily.

With a keurig comes k-cups, and a holder is the best way to keep these from cluttering a drawer. I really like using compostable k-cups, and these need to be kept in an airtight container. I included them below.

14. Junk Drawer Dividers

A junk drawer in the kitchen is just inevitable. Instead of trying to prevent it, embrace it and organize it.

Drawer dividers are a great way to keep these items separated and easy to find. Spare change, pens and pencils, post-its, and other random things all can have a space.

15. Countertop Tray

Olive oil, salt and pepper shakers, and some other frequently used cooking items usually end up piling up on the counter next to the stove.

Since these items are so handy to have right next to the stove, give them all a dish to sit on! This gives them a place to always be, and keeps things that much more organized.

16. File Folder Cleaning Supplies

Along with hanging your cleaning supplies on a tension rod under the kitchen sink, the other ones can be organized really neatly into a file folder.

Since cleaning supplies are for the most part liquid, get these metal file folder in the case of any leaking.

17. Metal File Organizer

Why stop bringing office tools into the kitchen?

To organize a lot of cutting boards and cookie sheets, use a metal file organizer. This stops you from having to stack them, and prevents a cluttered pile.

This specific file organizer works wonderfully for pot and pan lids, too.

18. DIY Weekly Menu

One of my favorite DIY projects is to print out a weekly calendar, put it in a picture frame, and use it as a dry erase menu. Meal planning is a great way to save money and stick to a budget, and a cute menu hung in your kitchen is a fun way to be able to look forward to that week’s meals.
