18 FREE Winter Date Ideas That Aren’t Boring

December 25, 2018 By Cassidy Lucille 24 Comments

This post shows you free winter date ideas – that aren’t boring!

Winter break is here, and if you’re anything like me you drained all your money first semester.

Finding date ideas for second semester is time consuming, and usually very spendy.

With it still being winter, here’s 18 FREE, fun winter date ideas – that aren’t boring!

Winter Date Ideas

1. Ice Skating

Ice skating is so cute, and usually completely free. Find an outdoor rink on a day that’s not too cold, and enjoy the special time with your significant other.

2. Snowshoeing

If you don’t have snow shoes, most campus recreation centers have some that you can rent for free, or are very cheap.

Find some trails, pack a light lunch and some hot chocolate, and take some cute instagrams along the way!

3. Build a Snowman

After a big snow, this is the perfect thing to do!

We may be in college now, but building snowmen is still very very fun. This activity still takes up a lot of time, so it’s a good thing to do on a lazy Sunday.

After you finish your snowman and you’re all cold, this is the perfect opportunity to cuddle up under some blankets and drink some tea or hot chocolate!

4. Visit a museum

If you research, you’d be surprised how many free attractions you can find around your city.

Even inside your college, there might be a free attraction! My college has an art museum, which of course is free to students.

If nothing is advertised as free, make sure you check and see if college students can get in for free with their student ID’s.

5. Drink some hot chocolate next to a fireplace

This is perfect for a winter day that is just too cold to go outside. Grab some hot chocolate, a cute movie, and snuggle next to the warm fireplace!

6. Go on a Christmas light adventure

Drive around and try to find the best Christmas lights in the town.

This one might seem boring, but the simplicity of it leaves a lot of room for you to make a lot of memories with your significant other!

7. Go sledding

Buy or rent some cheap sleds, and find a hill nearby!

This is a date idea that’s a good idea to do in a group. Make it a double or triple date if you can!

8. Game night

I feel like in the recent years playing games have become much more popular.

Playing card games or board games with friends can be a lot of fun! This date is another great one to have with a group of people, or just spend some time playing one on one card games alone – it’s versatile!

9. Indoor picnic

Blizzard?

Have a picnic indoors! Scrounge up whatever you have for snacks in your dorm or apartment, and put together a mini picnic.

10. Cook Dinner

Cooking together is a very cute date idea. Plus, you get to eat the masterpiece you guys created!

If you want to go all out, make a three or four course meal, and enjoy it together with a nice glass of wine or champagne. Or vodka, if you want to get crazy. Whatever you decide is best.

11. Yoga

Stressful week? Doing some yoga is a great way to relax.

There’s tons of free yoga instructing videos on youtube! Pick one that looks interesting, and enjoy destressing.

12. Go to a University sporting event

At most colleges you get in to all the sporting events for free.

Pick a sport, and make it into a date night. Plus, it’s on campus – no transportation costs!

13. Hiking

Even though it’s winter, I bet you’ll find that you enjoy hiking in the colder temperatures!

Dress a little bit warmer, and make sure to keep a brisk pace during the hike. I doubt you’ll get cold, and hiking during the winter is a whole new perspective compared to the warmer months.

14. Bake cookies

Similar to cooking with your significant other, baking cookies is another cute activity to do.

When all of your cookies are baked, you can share them with your friends or pig out with each other!

15. Put together a puzzle

If you and your significant other have the patience for this, this can be a great ongoing activity!

Pick out a nice puzzle, and dedicate a small table for it wherever you have space. This is a great one to complete over a few days! Maybe if a blizzard hits and you get snowed in?

16. Spa Night

This is another great one for a stressful week. Buy or make some face masks, soak your feet, and relax!

This post showed you 16 free winter date ideas.
